Product Spotlight: Sterling Silver Infinity Eyeglasses Holder

This week’s Product Spotlight shines on the functional and beautiful Sterling Silver Infinity Eyeglasses (or Sunglasses) Holder. I have to give credit to my husband, Jim, as he was the inspiration behind this piece. I normally advise that he open his own jewelry business when he offers his opinion, but I’ve sold quite a few of these helpful little necklaces, and, as a bonus, I’ve almost always got my glasses nearby as well!

A few years back, I was looking for my reading glasses, and (wouldn’t you know) all five pairs weren’t in any of their regular places. I took a deep breath and asked, for the thousandth time, if Jim had seen them. As usual, I endured the familiar but usually idle threat that he was going to march down to the local big box store to get me the largest, longest, most garish glasses chain in the pharmacy aisle. I was sick of hearing his threat--and afraid that he might really mean it this time! “All right,” I said, “I’ll make something!”

There were a number of things to consider when making this piece. It would take a beating with everyday wear, so I wanted to strike that great balance of function, beauty, and durability. After determining that sterling silver would serve as the most practical metal, for its strength and resistance to damage, I chose the graceful infinity symbol as the pendant piece to hold the glasses. An infinity sign represents endings turning into new beginnings and those new beginnings turning again into ending--just as nature always begins again in the spring after dying in the winter; just as I began making this piece as an end to Jim's threats!

The heavy-gauge sterling wire is shaped, then hammered for strength. A heavy ring, soldered closed holds the symbol to the chain, which is comprised of nickel-free stainless steel links, soldered closed – again - for strength.

I’ve had a bit of time to address problematic design issues, making this piece especially functional and strong. The whole piece goes right over the head, as there’s no clasp; a split ring holds the two ends of the chain together. Despite its length of 30 inches, the glasses won’t hang too low, either.

Jewelry is always subject to personal taste, but it’s hard to go wrong with a gift of the Sterling Silver Infinity Eyeglasses Holder. They’re perfect for anyone who needs a reliable place for their reading glasses, cheaters, or sunglasses. Useful and fun--what a great way to wear jewelry!
